During the afternoon practice session the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was not to Kennington’s liking and the team went to work to make changes.
“We started with the set up that worked really well for us last year but it wasn’t very good for the conditions today” explained the driver.
The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was better in qualifying and Kennington would post the sixth quickest time and start the 250-lap race from row three. He was quickly on the move forward.
“We were concerned the car might be a little tight at first but it was pretty good” said Kennington who powered the #17 Castrol Edge Doge up as high as third before the team made their first pit stop for fuel.
When the yellow flag waved for the first time slowing the field Kennington brought the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge to pit lane for service. The team made a slight adjustment and added fuel.
“We made a small change and then figured we’d adjust a little more if needed during out next stop for tires,” stated Kennington.
While the team hoped for a caution somewhere around the midpoint of the race one never came and the final 174 laps were run under green flag conditions.
“We were in a good position but never got a caution,” said Kennington. “We were okay on short runs but then the car was just too loose” he added.
Though difficult to handle Kennington managed to use all his abilities to bring the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge home with a seventh place finish. “The whole team worked hard to get the car close this afternoon we just needed that second stop to really dial it in,” said Kennington.
DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team conclude the 2017 season September 23rd at Jukasa Speedway.
